My Professional Teaching Philosophy

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

My educational philosophy has certainly grown and developed over the years and because of my own passion and belief in life-long learning, I have the desire to share this love of learning with my students. This is what propels me to continue my own professional development. By continuing my graduate level coursework to learn new skills and techniques in education, I believe that I will be better equipped to lead and guide my students to develop to their fullest potential. The purpose of education is to ensure that all students are enabled to learn and to become life-long learners.

My role as an educational professional is to facilitate and guide them in this process as they mature, learn, and grow to become responsible adults who will one day be making important decisions on their own. As children, they are like clay to be molded and shaped and the influence that I will provide will influence their future decisions. It is my responsibility to guide them as they become independent learners who have the desire to learn and grow. Through educational curiosity to inquire about new discoveries, the seeds are planted in their minds to reach out and explore new possibilities in their lives.

Because I believe that every student is fully capable of learning, the purpose of education is to ensure by every means possible that all students learn to the best of their own natural abilities.

The learners in my classroom will realize that they are safe to express themselves among their peers with fear of being judged. Everyone’s opinion will be valued. Students often will keep things to themselves and not share their unique perspectives. It is important that they develop their full potential. I will guide students to express themselves without fear of criticism. Each student’s talents will show their potential and allow them to express their own views.

All of this would not be possible if I did not bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to my classroom every day. It is only through leading by example that the children learn what is expected of them.

By incorporating different learning styles, my goal is to make the content in my classroom relevant to engage all students as they become active learners. Each student learns differently, and Bloom’s taxonomy shows that different methods must be implemented to achieve optimal student results. Students feel best when they feel successful. Students also need variety, and I will incorporate hands-on learning activities and cooperative learning projects to engage student involvement and cooperative learning. Additionally, students learn best when they are shown exactly what is expected of them by sharing the exact process of how to do what is expected and then they are given a clear path to follow. Clear expectations lead to better understanding and results. For example, by providing a rubric the student learner knows the grading expectation for the project. There is no uncertainty of what is required or expected.

Of course, one of the most essential elements of effective teaching is often getting the cooperation of the student’s parents. It takes teamwork to promote student success. By keeping them in the loop, parents and teachers are viewed as a team working together for the best interest of the child’s education.

So, my expectation is that by equipping myself with the best skills in technology, psychology, and always being kind in putting the needs of the child at the forefront, I can achieve my ideal classroom. These criteria would also transition to an online classroom as it would need to have engaging open communication, and relevant stimulating lessons to maintain the student’s attention. As a facilitator, I should have access to a wide variety of educational resources to fully support my student’s learning. My online classroom should mirror my physical classroom except that it will incorporate more advanced technology for a more rigorous experience.

In conclusion, my educational philosophy is that teaching is a lifelong process where I will continue to learn from my students as they will learn from me. I am learning and growing every day with each new experience. There will be new advances in education, or a new technique or a new App for us as Teachers to incorporate and share with the students. These new strategies and ideas will expand my philosophy over time and mean that I have successfully grown as an Educator.
